Sheltered Housing

There is a range of accommodation available in Swansea designed specifically for older people (usually aged 60 or over), and let only to this age group . The properties include purpose-built self contained flats and bungalows which are easy for tenants to manage, with adaptations where necessary to allow easy access and mobility.

This type of accommodation (which is often referred to as sheltered accommodation) offers the opportunity for older people to continue living independently, but with reassurance that help is available if a problem should arise.

Older persons accommodation is NOT a care or residential home - tenants lead their own lives in their own self contained properties within the scheme, and can decide the extent to which they want to take part in social events and other activities arranged on site.

Older persons' accommodation benefits from a number of services which offer tenants increased security, support and reassurance. Most schemes in Swansea have systems installed which provide an emergency response service on a 'round the clock' basis. Most schemes also have a manager who can help with day to day problems and issues during office hours.  They also play an important role in arranging on-site services (such as visits by mobile hairdressers) and activities (such as coffee mornings, visits and health & well being classes).

Accommodation usually consists of 1 or 2 bedroom flats (on the ground or first floor) or bungalows. Although the individual properties are self contained some schemes also have communal facilities such as a lounge/kitchen, a laundry room, a garden and storage/charging facilities for mobility scooters.

There is often a good supply of older persons' accommodation available on this website.  Click here to check if there are any current vacancies.
